3 Keys to Getting SHREDDED While Also Getting and Staying STRONG: Part II

Key #2 – You MUST Train for STRENGTH – One HUGE mistake that is often made is that of neglecting strength.  I feel that strength needs to be your number 1 focus within your training at all times or it at least needs to be apart of your training at all times.  It should never be left out.

The best way to hit on strength is to keep heavy weight training within your sessions via lower reps.  This will keep and get you stronger and will help promote muscle growth.

If you don’t train heavy, your body won’t have a reason to stay or be strong nor will it have a reason to retain a lot of your muscle.

What a lot of guys like to do is moderate to lightly loaded circuits and high intensity / metabolic training sessions to lose fat and get shredded.

While those methods work and they have their place, they won’t be giving your body reasons to stay strong and retain muscle.

The solution is to train with heavy, complex movements like squats, deadlifts, military presses, weighted pull ups, bent rows, and all of the different variations of these main movements.

Obviously it goes well beyond jut the movements listed, but those are the basics and you can’t ever go wrong with the basics.

The rep ranges I like to use to build up some serious strength are your 5’s all the way down to your heavy doubles and triples.  Very rarely will I go with heavy singles unless I’m testing out maximal efforts or I’m training myself or someone else for straight up performance and it’s a required skill.  Testing out your 1 rep max isn’t that necessary for getting shredded.
