Best Methods To Burn Fat?

Best Methods To Burn Fat?

Best methods to burn fat? I’ve been looking into intermittent fasting but I tried it and it is very difficult to fast for 16 hours with all the cravings… I also have been doing hiit tabata intervals on an elliptical as well as using a 4 day upper lower split but weight training in circuit fashion…

Should I just go on an all out one month cut lifting maybe once or twice a week with cardio 6 days a week? But problem is I don’t want to lose all the valuable muscle I’ve worked hard for. I’m about 21% body fat at 300 lbs I’m very strong have a lot of muscle just wanna get down to at least 12% fat or even lower if I can.. -Rich

Hey Rich, first off I want to say I’ve been there before dude. What you have to understand that there isn’t one way to skin a cat, it’s a matter of finding what works best for YOU with your lifestyle.

Intermittent fasting is something I’ve done a lot in the past and it definitely works BUT I would only recommend doing it if it’s something you can do consistently. You see, for me I have backwards so it’s just not realistic for me to do IF consistently. If I worked a normal 9-5 job or went to school during the morning and afternoon, it would absolutely be something to consider. The point I am getting at here is, if it fits your lifestyle it’s definitely worth trying out and I am going share a tip with you that will help with all the cravings you get.

  • Tip # 1-Start with a 12 hour fast and increase from there.
  • Tip # 2- Drink a cup or two of coffee to hold you over.
  • Tip # 3 Drink plenty of water.
  • Tip # 4 Supplement with BCAA’s.

Now onto your training…

Unless you are training for a specific show or date, I would NOT go on an all out one month cut, lifting 1 X per week and doing cardio 6 days a week. While you may loose fat doing this A) you will loose muscle B) you will get weaker C) it’s not realistic to maintain these results when you start training and eating “normal” again.

When it comes to training in the gym, you should always train for improving your performance, no matter if you are trying to loose fat or gain muscle. Stick to your 4 day split and focus on strength as this will help preserve your strength and muscle. Ultimately it is your nutrition and exercise level that will determine fat loss.

When it comes to nutrition there are a ton of different approaches that would work for you. 1 of them is intermittent fasting which we already talked about. Another approach is Carb Night which my good friend and fellow strength coach, John Gaglione, has been doing. Find something that works for you Rich and STICK to it. COMMIT yourself to it, just like you commit yourself to getting stronger and I guarantee you will loose fat.

Regardless of whatever type of “diet” you are following you will need to follow a few fundamental rules that you already know:

  • Cut out sugar and grains
  • Don’t consume any liquid calories
  • Keep your protein intake to roughly 1 G per lb of bodyweight
  • Limit the amount of fruit you eat to 1-2 servings a day
  • Eat more vegetables

These tips are far from groundbreaking BUT they work. The key is to be militant about your nutrition and make sure you are committed to eating healthier .

The 2 Most Effective Methods For Fat Loss

Traditional cardio like running on the treadmill and elliptical is dead. Sure it may work for some BUT if you are looking to get ripped and not look “manorexic” then stick to the 2 methods below:

  • Hill Sprints
  • Prowler pushes or sled drags

Start with 3-4 days a week of doing hill sprints and prowler or sled drags. Don’t worry about what the best number of sets, reps, time etc…Just start doing it and increase as you get more conditioned.
